Full course description

Agroecology is farming that works with nature to maintain production, economic, and environmental well-being. Farming practices inspired by the natural world that make up a good match in place and plants are deployed to balance of productivity, biodiversity, and resilience. A good match is specific to local contexts, constraints, and opportunities.

This course provides introductory materials and instructions to practice agroecology. Resources target participants with general information and guidance for farming and gardening efforts for a specific commercial, hobby, and educational context. Agroecology Lab Online is designed as a community forum for folks envisioning a transformation in the way we produce food and protect our natural resources. The introductory steps will help you envision an agroecosystem and consider your role in its management. You will also define specific goals with your priorities in mind. The primary objective of the training is to help you think expansively about agriculture and food systems and to take action on your land and in your communities to improve production sustainability and community resilience through agroecology.
